I thought of the AMR equalization curve options as I listened to a London FFRR LP (Kubelik/VPO/New World) today using my new technique to optimize stylus tracking. The FFRRs are well known to have some extra LF, all right, but wit...

Hi Romy,I read about EAR834p modifications in number of forums. And I never found any explanation how does RIAA feedback work.Only from you I heard about Miller capacity that used in this RIAA.I tried to do my calculations and as I understand the Mil...

Will I be listening to all my sources via the inverse RIAA?
Well, the question was sarcastic but it has some rational grains. If the signal passing via the 834PTF-Air does receive some positive attributes despite of the presumed nastiness of t...
I have a PDF file of the manual if it interests you to read it, I can email it to you. The unit weighs 80lbs, uses 6 6sn7's. What I found a little odd was the spec for the phono is it says : MM Phono Stage Gain: 64 dB at 1 kH...

Hi,
103 or 103R + mass loaded SME headshell + 3012 or a 3009 + Seiki 1500 + hagerman opamp phono stage (good only with select parts and battery power) or an EAR 834 (with some mods) and some old...

What a concert that must have been. So Romy, how do you handle the EQ issues? The early discs must have been in ffrr or some other non-riaa turnovers. Or are all the discs re-issues that have been remastered?jh...

Romy, what I meant was why choose LCR active over a RC RIAA passive EQ?Is there a logical explanation for this or does it just sound better in your experience?/P...

"So, my position is my feeling that LCR might be adventitious and it is what I “prefer” as better RIAA filter. Still, I use my feedback RC, so what, who said that what I USE must be what I prefer?"Romy that is Very refreshing view!Im not convinced th...

I spent a bigger part of day today to finish the “End of Life" Phonostage, there were many things to do but it is now over. Done! Complete! Amen! I it closed up and sat in it’s permanent place.
A few observations looking back. First, I spent a LOT...

So does this mean that input capacitance must stay steady and/or especially low for the RIAA values to work properly? And must gain tubes also operate more-or-less steady-state, with a low output impedance?Sorry if these are lame questions; ...

a Hong Kong-based company DIY Hifi Supply is selling RIAA EQ modules, the first modulesthat I have seen at 10kOm. It is something that Thorsten did not do commercially… but if the silks sound good then it might be VERY interesting. Is anyone kno...

I am the example of the vinyl tube RIAA correctors explain torsion phenomena in the audio. But apparently the standard way of thinking of engineers do not allow them to understand the obvious ! Then Thurs ochastota second pole has an optimum at 501.1...
Is there such a thing as partly unshielded arm wire? If you want that run shielded, don't you have to start at the cartridge connection?
Paul, the tonearm wire runs inside the metal armwands (EMT & SME), which in tur...

The question in my mind Romy is: why? I will be interested to hear your comment on what your goal was to learn about your system in introducing these and what the results are. After the extent to which you have described the sound of your...

Ok, Paul, this is the info that I needed, thank you!My Hagtech anti-RIAA has 50R output imp. at -60dB output for MC.Unfortunately my load resistors are soldered and in a very painful place,(for some reason the circuit did not accper the loading R at ...

Paul McGowan look like will be releasing soon PS Audio new devise NuWave Phono Converter. Read the release and see what it is. http://www.psaudio.com/shop/nuwave-phono-converter/ Unquestionably it is a very proper product, or I would say a family of ...

Yes, I like it too. It is in a way symbolizes a termination of any superficial ambitions… the shallow ambitions that we have so many in our anxiety with RIAA correctors. I assure you that if you heard the “End of Life” then you might understand where...

Here we go: another yell of a disturbed feline.... How come that after years and years of analog glory, decadence and renaissance the audio industry still has no seriously performing RIAA phonocorrectors. I would not even go to MC correctors or...
How funny would it be if it turned out to be any good, or even not bad?
Of course I will give some listening to this thing. They claim 65dB gain on 12AX7 and 12AU7 and 84dB noise. I do not know how true it will be...

I tried Amperex ECC83 "Bugle Boy". They sounded bad in the EAR RIAA. I like more modern Amperex ECC83, Holland made with orange-red prints....

I was just thinking.Isn't an riaa filter just a line level crossover for one channel (times stereo)? So what you say makes total sense....

Thanks Romy. Given the power of 801A preamp, this correction is not necessary. I simply increase the volume compared to my clone of 834 RIAA or other sources and the autoformer at the output is still in the attenuation mode, providing increased outpu...
Hm, I took the anti-RIAA signal converted and run CD player into the phonostage. The RIAA curve was fine and the effect of the HF volume and frequency-depended quantization did not expose itself. So, it looks like the p...

I actually woke up today at 6AM, check all settings on my arms (after a few month of not working), demagnetized the needles and was spinning records all mooring. One of the benefits that I got with new phonostage is that the grounding patters for all...
How many sources do you currently have? If you are building a phono corrector, make it for 4 volts output. If you have a PC for digital playback, there are good DACs with more than 2V output. That would leave a tuner to pimp - cer...
With the late success in my battle with electricity I was slowly reviewing some of my things. What I detected that in context of good electricity I can set up my Injection Channel much more aggressive, let seat 2-3dB more t...

Paul,I haven't done much audio in the past 1,5 year. The main reason is a war in my motherland which got me pretty out of balance, but I'm coming slowly back. To try the Fr7, I made a slate/lead tower for the SME3012 caring it. Now I need to convince...

I ripped my Cd player (to old to mention ) output stage and replaced it with SS J-fet phono preamp .I took RIaa components out .The dac puts out only 20mV so the MM stage with separate PSU and discrete J-fet regulators seems adequte for the job. Whol...

18 dB is a heck of a lot of energy to expend on feedback, but op amps do use tons of it. Any of those guys in there?More troubling is the thought that the energy could be lost to some sort of "proprietary curve", like a digital "RIAA" or something,...
|
It's ironic that some of us have spent a lot of time and effort building a vinyl playback system that clearly reveals the differences in the recording curves. How sweet would it be to twist an otherwise-non-intrusive knob to set the playback curve co...
